Bvckup is capable of checking for new releases and optionally downloading and installing them. It checks for a new version by retrieving the latest release summary that is located at update.bvckup.com/check. Typical summary looks like this:

The version from the summary is compared to the installed version. If it is newer, the "new version available" prompt is shown. If you choose to proceed with an update, the package is retrieved via a straight-forward HTTP request, its digital signature is checked and the .exe is launched. The upgrade shuts down the running program, updates the installation and restarts Bvckup. This typically takes under 5 seconds from the moment the package is downloaded.
Updates can be checked either manually or automatically. Additionally Bvckup can also download and install the updates automatically. This is controlled from the Preferences:
If automatic checks are enabled, the first check will be made 2 hours after the program is started for the first time, and every 2 days after that. Alternatively, the updates can be checked by hand at any time:
